As with any case, the BlackBox X40
does have a couple of problems with it. One example
is cooling, the front intake is nearly worthless as
it is only 60mm. There's nowhere for it to suck the
air in from. We were also disappointed that the stealth
CD/DVD covers will not work with all drives, but it
would be nearly impossible to produce such a thing.
The last thing we were unhappy with was the thickness
of the case. When compared to the Impression IM-21
(which was a very solid case), it does seem a bit
flimsy.
The window while using the Xoxide upgrade
cold cathode.
However,
this case has won us over with all the good things
about it. If you've never had a window before, you
will love having one, and you won't have to deal with
the hassle of figuring out how to install it. The
partial acrylic piece that lights up in front of the
case impressed me quite a bit, this is something that
we've never seen before on a case, and would be a
very difficult mod to do on your own. Of course, we
were amazed to see included stealth bay covers for
CD/DVD-roms. However, while Xoxide has done a good
job with getting them to work with most drives, they
unfortunately do not work with all as we experianced.
Xoxide's
BlackBox X40 is an especially good case for anyone
who wants a case pre-modded. However, it is plagued
with a few problems that owners will have to deal
with: below average cooling and it's thin and somewhat
'flimsy' feel. Even with these problems, I did find
the case to be rather nice, nice enough for me to
continue to use it as my primary case.
This
case is available for purchase from Xoxide here
for $79.99.
Pros: ·Great looks, especially with
the lit up front ·Window pre-modded ·Stealth bay covers · Front

Cons: ·Below average cooling ·Stealth bay covers don't work
on all drives ·Thin
metal creates a somewhat 'flimsy' feel
Final Score: B+
